How is a spiritually dead person made spiritually alive? What is the source of this life changing power? It is the Power of God that we receive by grace through faith in Christ Jesus. This is the source of victory over spiritual death and the key to our spiritual well-being.

In the book of Ephesians, Paul focuses on describing a life in Christ. What does it mean to be saved, to be born again, to be a Christian? What does it mean to walk in relationship with God? In essence, this is your source of Life Changing Power. In the passage below, the Apostle Paul clearly states how this happens and, in the rest of Ephesians, he discusses what this life looks like.
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ — by grace you have been saved — and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:4-10)
Are You A Good Person?
As discussed in Part 1, we are spiritually dead due to our sins and this separates us from life in God. We require His life changing power to awaken us. You may say: ‘so what, no one is perfect.’ You would be right about that. Romans 3:10 says: “None is righteous, no, not one”. You could even say, ‘so what, I am still a good person.’ By what standard – your’s or God’s – are you a good person? God’s standard is perfection and one day we will all stand before Him and answer for ourselves.
Most everyone is familiar with the Ten Commandments which are God’s Law for being a good person, His standard of perfection that he requires. Have you ever lied? Of course, we all have lied before. Have you ever stolen anything, even something little? We would all answer yes to that as well, I am sure. Another of those laws is ‘Do not murder’. You may say, ‘well I am safe there’. However, Jesus said that if you harbor anger in your heart, then you are guilty of murder. We are all guilty of this as well. That makes us all lying, thieving, murderers at heart. We are not good and, on our own, apart from God, we cannot be good, let alone perfect.
It is God who makes us spiritually alive through His life changing power. He gives us faith to believe in Him and the ability to place our faith in his son Jesus. We do not have the ability within ourselves to become spiritually alive – that has to come from God. We are dead in our trespasses and sins. The space between us and God is impassable by any human being. It is our sin that separates us from God and prevents us from becoming spiritually alive.
There is absolutely nothing you can do to earn God’s love and nothing you can do to deserve salvation. What a predicament we are in! We are spiritually dead and can do nothing about it in our own abilities. We are weak, we are helpless, we are in despair.
You Are Guilty… But There Is Hope!
If you were standing before God on Judgement day, you would be judged guilty and there is only one punishment for all sin – God’s wrath, eternal death in hell (Romans 6:23). However, because God loves us, He has made a way of escape for us. He sent His son Jesus, who lived a perfect sinless life and then sacrificed his life for us in his death on the cross (Romans 5:8).
If you place your faith and trust in Jesus Christ and the work that He has already done for you, God will take away all your sins and He will set you free from the punishment you deserve. He will give you His life changing power. You will no longer be among the walking dead, He will make you spiritually alive! You will, one day, pass on to eternal life forever with Him in heaven.
Now, my friend, no matter how long I write about this, no matter how much I would try to convince you to awaken spiritually, it will not help you. Further, this message may not even be for you. If, however, you feel that spiritual deadness due to your sin – your falling short of the glory of God – then this message is for you. Cry out to God, confess your sin and your inability to save yourself, ask for His forgiveness, ask Him to give you faith to believe in Christ Jesus and be set free.
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
