Have you noticed that many kids today seem different than when you and I were kids? Kids today are more likely to be overweight or obese. They are more likely to be sick constantly and suffer from severe allergies. Many have a difficult time socializing. They are even more likely to suffer from depression. There are many reasons for this. If you spend even a little time on Wellness Achiever, you will discover many of the reasons. I want to propose one very important and powerful solution for these problems – youth sports. There are many amazing, healthy benefits of youth sports for your kids.
Growing up – like many of you – I was a very active child. While I didn’t have the opportunity to participate in youth sports as a child (for various reasons), I did not spend much time inside in front the television, devouring unhealthy snacks. I didn’t spend a lot of time playing video games. Don’t misunderstand – there is nothing wrong with watching television, playing video games or consuming the occasional junk food snack. However, there is a very unhealthy imbalance of these activities in today’s youth.
If you are a parent, you know that finding and enforcing balance for you kids can be quite challenging! I have recently begun coaching kids in a local youth sports league. I have discovered that the benefits of youth sports helps tremendously. This is evident for my own child, as well as, the other children that I have the opportunity to coach.
Suspected ear infections or otitis media account for over 35% of all pediatrician visits in the United States – that’s approximately 30 million doctor visits a year. But is a visit to the pediatrician the best way to handle them? Now we have well done studies on which to base our decision.
Many people are now turning to Chiropractic instead of traditional allopathic medicine to deal with ear infections for children. Chiropractors attempt to get to the root cause of a health problem rather than just treat the symptoms.
Antibiotics are certainly one of the most effective drugs that have ever been developed. They do have a valid place in modern medical practice. In fact, they very often achieve their desired effect of killing bacteria in your body. However, since Alexander Fleming discovered Penicillin in 1928, the discovery of additional unwanted effects of antibiotics has continued at a rapid pace. This week, we learned of a new one – antibiotics are making you fat!
It has become clear to many people that the adverse effects of antibiotics out weigh their potential benefits. Despite the fact that many medical doctors tend to extremely over-prescribe them, many people (this author included) have chosen to avoid them all together. Instead, we have discovered many natural foods and substances that have antibiotic properties. As well, I choose to focus on lifestyle and nutrition that naturally allows my immune system to fight infection, making antibiotic drugs completely unnecessary.

Happy Father’s Day!
Here is a little history. The idea of Father’s Day was conceived slightly over a century ago by Sonora Dodd of Spokane, WA, while she listened to a Mother’s Day sermon in 1909. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart, a widowed Civil War veteran who was left to raise his six children on a farm. A day in June was chosen for the first Father’s Day celebration June 17, 1910, proclaimed by Spokane’s mayor because it was the month of Smart’s birth.
The first presidential proclamation honoring fathers was issued in 1966 when President Lyndon Johnson designated the third Sunday in June as Father’s Day. Father’s Day has been celebrated annually since 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed the public law that made it permanent.
Many forces influence your child’s health. From television commercials and programs, the internet, teachers and parents, your children receive input from many areas that will shape their attitudes toward health. You, as the parent, have the ability to have the strongest influence. Modeling healthy behaviors for your kids is the best way for them to learn and adopt healthy habits for themselves.
Have you ever thought about whether Mom or Dad has the biggest impact on your child’s health? Traditionally, mothers tend to have the greatest influence in the earlier years of child development. However, when it comes to healthy weight, recent research actually shows that fathers have the biggest impact.
That’s right Dad’s! It is time to step up to the plate and make sure that you are modeling a healthy weight and healthy habits that produce this lifestyle for your kids. Here are some tips to help you out.

A recent case report published at Journal of Clinical Chiropractic Pediatrics lends support to the idea that chiropractic treatment can provide relief of pediatric GERD. There have been past reports of chiropractic care relieving GERD in adults. This report suggests that other pediatric patients with GERD may benefit from chiropractic care as well.

The study author, Dr. Andrew Chuang (MClinChiro, private practice, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia), presents a case report of the treatment of a four month old female with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The prescribed treatment was approximately 8 visits over a 6 weeks period. It consisted of chiropractic adjustments and cranial adjustments. Within three weeks, the patient had no acid reflux or vomiting, as reported by her mother.
Is it safe to take Tylenol during pregnancy? This question has been asked by millions of pregnant women. Typically, they hear from their doctor that Tylenol during pregnancy is completely safe for both the mother and her developing baby. However, a new study has found symptoms aligned with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Tylenol-exposed children.
Is health freedom a right for you and your family? Not according to the American Academy of Pediatricians (AAP). Parents who refuse medical treatment for their children based on religious beliefs should just get out of the way! The AAP has a medical agenda that must not be interfered with by something as petty as religious liberties. If you, as a parent, believe in divine healing, for example, then you might as well be guilty of child abuse. If you honor the innate, God-given healing ability of your child’s body, then you are obviously an uneducated, uncaring parent guilty of neglect!
Antibiotics are the most common treatment for an ear infection. While antibiotics sometimes provide temporary relief, they do not address the cause of the problem. As a result, a single ear infection often becomes a chronic, recurring issue. Antibiotics also have many dangerous side effects. If you are a parent of an infant or toddler, you need to know how to heal ear infections safely without antibiotics.
